How to Calculate Cost Per Bound Policy From Purchased Insurance Leads

6 min read · Oct 8, 2026

Cost per lead is a shopping metric. Cost per bound policy is an operating metric.

A practical formula

**Cost per bound ≈ total lead spend ÷ policies bound from that spend**

To trust the number, track by source:

1. Leads purchased 2. Leads contacted 3. Quotes completed 4. Policies bound 5. Spend attributed to that source

Why most agencies cannot calculate it

Disposition data lives in one portal, dial notes in another, and the household in a third. Lead management software and Lead Accountability keep purchase, contact, and outcome on one trail.

Example math (illustrative only)

If a source costs $2,000 and produces 4 binds, cost per bound is $500. If another source costs $1,200 and produces 1 bind, the cheaper CPL may be the worse buy.
